Last night my wife and I bought our first Christmas tree. It took us about 20 minutes to find the perfect one, but it was worth it. Our only problem is we have no decorations for it. We have two (2) ornaments, and that's it. The smell is awesome though. I can only remember one real tree when I was a kid; my mom wasn't a fan. (I guess cause they are pretty messy...)
It's getting closer and closer to Christmas. You wouldn't know it with the weather we have been having up here, but it's only a week and a 1/2 a way! I was listening to some Christmas music a few days ago and I kept wondering why, at Christmas time, we make Jesus a baby again. I know he had to be born to die for our sins, but for a month, Jesus is a baby..."baby Jesus." Just struck me as funny...since there is no scriptural backing on the matter of remembering Christ's birth, only His sacrifice for our sin. I love Christmas though.
Merry Christmas!

Chase, are you suggesting then that we forget about His birth altogether? I think we should be glad that the world at least remembers Christ as a baby, at least, for a month. The way they are taking Him out of Christmas, I'm wondering when ALL mention of Christ, as baby Jesus or Lord will be non-existent.
This kind of reminds me of that phrase you hear often in Christian circles, "It's not Christ that people mind, it's his bride!" Well I don't see the world trying to get His bride or Christians out of Christmas but there is a major effort to get Christ out of Christmas whether He is Lord or the baby Jesus. Something to think about.
by no means am I saying we forget about Jesus' birth. Unfortunately many churches preach the same sermon at Christmas time about the birth of Jesus and the story tends to end there. The rest of the year, the messages are "self-help" for how to cope with depression, and how to express your feelings to one another. It's sad that many pastors do not preach Christ's death, but preach His birth every year. That's all I meant by the message (and that there is no scriptual reference where Jesus says, "remember when I was born.")But instructs us to not forget about His sacrifice. Jesus did need to be born so that He could die.
That's a good point about no scriptural references to remembering His birth.
You're right about many churches, even in E.H.T. leaving out the message of the cross. Sometimes they even take the cross out of the sanctuary. Does yours have one in the sanctuary? If not, ask your pastor why there isn't one. You might be surprised at the answer.
Yes, we do have a cross displayed in our auditorium.
